I have decided to start eating red meat again as advised by my acupucturist as I think I may be approaching Anaemia. I had it when I was younger, and recognise the signs namely increased tiredness and hair loss. I will of course only be eating organic meat from my local farmer’s market, and in small quantities as I have to be careful with the saturated fat in meat, which is dangerous for people with MS. I know that iron tablets are not the answer, as anaemia is often caused by pathogenic bacteria in the gut which loves iron and prevents the body from using it. Taking iron tablets will only aggravate the situation. If you are not prepared to eat meat, your best bet is to follow an anti-candida and GFCF diet and take spatone instead of iron tablets. So here are a few more reasons why a bit of meat is a good idea:
The richest sources of Vitamin B1 (thiamin): pork, liver, heart and kidneys
B2 (riboflavin): eggs, meat, milk, poultry and fish
B3 (niacin): meat and poultry
B5 (pantothenic acid): meat and liver
B6 (pyridoxine): meat, poultry, fish and eggs
B12 (cyanocobalamin): meat, poultry, fish, eggs and milk
Biotin: liver and egg yolks
Vitamin A: Liver, fish, egg yolks and butter
Although vitamin A is available in vegetables in the form of carotenoids, for the body to use these, it needs first to convert them into vitamin A. An overly toxic body or one suffering from continuous inflammation cannot do this. Meat, fish, eggs and liver (and butter but this is not allowed on the MS diet)
Meat provides an easy to use source of vitamin A, useful for those of us who are very toxic and suffer from inflammation. A deficiency in this vitamin damages immunity, causes eye problems and as Dr Natacha Campbell points out in her book, can result in impaired learning a development.
I stopped eating liver a while back because it is difficult to source organic liver, but I am reconsidering this now as I know it is ideal for an anaemic person, and it is a great source of Archidonic Acid and Docosahexaenoic Acid vitamin A and the B vitamins.
Do not eat preserved animal proteins – like smoked salmon or cured meats-these are full of preservatives, starches and much too much salt -all of which can aggravate the digestive system and will certainly not allow it to heal.
Sausages of course are full of rubbish and should be avoided.
